Chalking the Door 2025

A Blessing of the Chalk for Marking the Door

Lord Jesus, through your Incarnation and birth in true human form, you have made all the earth holy. We now ask your blessing upon this simple gift of your creation — chalk. We use it as a tool to teach our children, and they use it as a tool in their play and games. Now, with your blessing, may it become a tool for us to mark the doors of our home with the symbols of your wise servants who, so long ago, came to worship and adore you in your first home.

Mark the doorway with one or more of the symbols:

20 C M B 25

Let’s take a moment to remember the friends and family who have passed through our door during the past year and give thanks to God for them.

O God of Stars and Journeys, we ask your blessing on this threshold. May all whose journeys lead them through these doors be blessed with health, generosity of spirit, a joyful heart, and deep peace. O God of Welcome, may all who enter this doorway rejoice to find Christ living among us, and may we seek and serve, in everyone we meet, that same Jesus who is the incarnate Word, now and forever. Amen

May we, in this house, and all who come to visit, to work, and to play, remember these things throughout the coming year. May all who come and go here find peace, comfort, joy, hope, love, and salvation, for Christ has come to dwell in this house and in these hearts.

A Blessing of the Home
God who is Three, God who is One,
Bless this house in which we stand.
Bless it from roof to floor,
from wall to wall, from front to back.
May your Spirit alone dwell within these walls,
To bring joy and laughter to all who enter here.
We call upon the Sacred Three
To protect, keep safe and surround this home.
The circle of God around it,
The peace of Christ within it,
The life of the Spirit above it,
this day, this night and every night.
May the Triune God be the guardian of this place.
Peace be here in the name of the God of love,
Welcome be here in the name of the Christ of peace,
Joy be here in the name of the Spirit of life.
God who is One, God who is Three,
Bring light for the day and rest for the night.
We call upon the Sacred Three
To welcome, guide and nurture all who enter here,
The circle of God around friend and stranger,
The peace of Christ within guest and host,
The life of the Spirit above all who stand at the door,
this day, this night and evermore.
