At the SPU faculty retreat, the speaker had a slide in his talk titled "Education on the Emmaus Road."
His point was that our students may not recognize Jesus at first just like the two men did not recognize Him on the road to Emmaus, but that our classes can be open doors as we invite them to encounter God's love.
One article that I found that complimented the speaker's talk said the following:
"The journey to Emmaus began with Jesus as a stranger to the disciples. Then as the they went on the road, the stranger slowly became a travelling companion And when they finally reach their destination, the stranger — the travelling companion —becomes a friend. The two disciples invite Jesus to stay with them. The two are cognizant of the dangers of travelling at night. They open their hearts to their companion and show him their concern. Hence, a relationship, a friendship, is born."
The objective then is that those we encounter in our classes (or in our homes for that matter)
would meet Jesus in those places as the point really is more about transformation than about information. May it be so for us and for our students as our school year kicks off today!
Below are pictures of some of my students... I am praying that they are finding God's love more real because of the time we spend together.
And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you, just as it does from us to you. May you be infused with strength and purity, filled with confidence in the presence of God our Father when our Master Jesus arrives with all his followers. 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13
