Codswallop 2016 - a super fun dinner party we hosted tonight!
(adapted from an idea from a friend in Knoxville)
Dear Friends.
This is an email to ask you to SAVE THE DATE for April Fool's Day 2016.
We are inviting you to a unique evening of friendly feasting, story-telling, gaiety, and of course, fierce competition. On Friday, April 1st, at 6:00 p.m. (thanks to the some emails flying around, we know this date works for everyone at this point) we are holding the Feast of Codswallop.[1] For this dinner each party will bring a specially named dish along with a story. We supply the name for the dish below. Your challenge, if you choose to accept it and the invitation, is to create a dish that supposedly fits this name, along with a story that explains the origins of the dish. Before the meal each party will present its dish and tell the story of how it was first created. Any and all props, pictures, ancient relics, video clips, or other details that help to embellish the story are welcomed.[2] We will all enjoy the different dishes and then at the end we will vote on the most creative tale.[3]
For the meal you will need to bring your dish, story, and a beverage that best compliments your dish.[4]
If you choose to come and regale us with your story, the name of the dish for the night is mavu cayulo.
We can brainstorm about babysitting options for the kids as the date gets closer.
RSVP to the House of Codswallop to reserve your esteemed place at the table. emilyjasonhuff@gmail.com
Cheers,
Emily and Jason
[1] Australian for “senseless talk or writing.” (We do not take credit for this idea, but give credit to some friends of ours in TN who shared this with us.)
[2] NO, you are not supposed to look up the actual name and its actual definition, nor are you supposed to offer the official, actual history of your food (e.g. where pasta was first made). Your challenge is to IMBUE your dish with a wonderfully creative/absurd history which you will share with all of us.
[3] Yes, a prize will be offered for the most creative tale along with other prizes.
[4] These may include carbonated, alcoholic, or probiotic liquids--please nothing that is flaming.
p.s. the group we are gathering happens to be some of our absolute favorite people and it delights us to no end to think about having you all in the same room at once able to meet one another. We hope you can make it!
