At small group this afternoon, we gathered everyone together after lunch and explained the idea of participating in a trust fall to the kids and adults. Jason and I had loved the experience we had this summer of doing a trust fall with the couples with whom we hiked in Glacier, and we wanted to try this with our small group.
We explained that this was a chance to express ways we wanted to trust God more or to share about anything we wanted to put in God's hands.
This trust fall was a bit different than ones I have done at camps before because it was done in a spirit of prayer and the person who fell back was then held by the catchers for a period of time before being gently lowered to the ground. This allowed for a deeper experience rather than the group trying to get through everyone in record time as if it were an assembly line.
When each person went, he or she could look around at the people who were the "catchers" and then each person was given the choice to be lifted up by the group as well.
For me this time, it was not as profound falling back as it was this summer
(perhaps because the tone was a bit different being inside with kids giggling and more distractions rather than being out in Glacier National Park).
The thing that struck me this time around was the privilege of getting to be a catcher.
I loved the way this embodied prayer (literally) and how I felt like I was able to experience the lifting up of the requests each person shared in a very tangible way.
note to self...
