some wise
words from our friend Robert Benson:
"Some
of my friends have been wondering what to do next
after the disappointing news from the
election…
Here is
what I think we do:
Get up
in the morning and give our thanks for a new day and
make our
prayers as we have always done.
Be sure to
take a few minutes to be kind and generous and
present to
those with whom we share house and home.
Go to the
place where we do the work to which we have been given,
the work we
do for those who have been given to us.
Pick up the
brush or the pen or the pencil, take up the keyboard
or the
telephone or the podium, make the drawings or the charts or
the plans,
manage the miles or the meetings or the mail necessary
to do it as well as we can—with as much
courage and hope and
mindfulness
and confidence and joy as we can muster.
Work to
become more present and attentive and generous
to those
who are different from us.
Go home
when the day ends. Be grateful for a roof to be under and
for food to
eat and for the loving care that surrounds us on every side.
When the
darkness comes, make our confessions and offer our prayers
of
gratitude and petition. Lie down to rest, hoping to the
One Who
Made Us that the One Who Made Us will once again say,
"Let
there be light." Go to sleep, die the little death we die each day,
and do so
in peace.
This is the
work that has been given us to do.
The Light
will shine in the darkness and
the
Darkness will never overcome it.
There is no
call to stop believing it or
