Last fall, I signed up to run in the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon with some neighbors. Over the last few months, it's been fun to go on some runs with some wonderful women in the neighborhood and to get to know them better, but it seemed that as we got closer to the race, our little group was dwindling as far as who was going to be at the start line. Last Sunday, one neighbor (Sarah) said that decided she was not going to race and offered her race number to someone to use. I had this harebrained idea to ask Anna if she wanted to jump in the fun. While Anna has not been running much (she ran 2 miles in the Sunflower relay in May, and we went on a 3 mile run together last week), she is in great shape from dance. I told her that we could run as far as she wanted and then walk/run the rest. Why not? I was crazy enough to think of the idea, and she was crazy enough to say yes. Like mother, like daughter.
So that explains our last minute mother/daughter team this morning in the race. We threw together some costumes last night and had some pictures printed to wear in honor of Father's Day today, and we had a ball. She and I ran the first 5K together and then we ran/walked the rest. She still rocked the race in about 2 1/2 hours which is not too shabby for a girl who did one training run of 3 miles last week. :) Go Anna!!!
