Twinkies

In our Halloween box, we have two Twinkies that our neighbors gave out in 2012. This was the year Hostess was in bankruptcy proceedings so it was kind of a last hurrah to pass these out that Halloween thinking the world might never see them again.  (Lo and behold, they came back to US store shelves the next summer when they were bought by another company.) 

We decided to keep these two twinkies in our Halloween box as a little science experiment to see how long they would last.  One of them looks as good as new while the other one looks a little shriveled up, but the crazy thing is that there is no mold to be seen.  The preservatives in these babies is frightening!
