September Twenty-Twenty-Four

Pied Beauty
by Gerard Manley Hopkins

Glory be to God for dappled things –
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced – fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

Beloved Community

This quote was shared in the sermon at church today which I want to come back to again and again.... "Love is creative and redemptive. Love builds up and unites; hate tears down and destroys. The aftermath of the ‘fight with fire’ method … is bitterness and chaos, the aftermath of the love method is reconciliation and creation of the beloved community…. Yes , love — which means understanding, creative, redemptive goodwill, even for one’s enemies — is the solution." — Martin Luther King Jr.

beloved community indeed!!

such a gift that Renee Notkin honored Ratnakar today by allowing me to introduce him and allow him to share some words of encouragement with the congregation today.

“Let us not tire of preaching love; it is the force that will overcome the world”— Oscar Romero

passage Ratnakar shared with our small group as what he described as the guidebook to our faith:

And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:15-22 The Message

Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit.  Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:15-22 NIV

Forty is Fabulous!

While our friends Jeremiah and Ratnakar had dinner together, we got to celebrate Hannah's 40th birthday tonight along with friends in Seattle and with family who flew in from Chicago and Nashville.

CHEERS TO FORTY YEARS!

Saturday in Seattle

Ratnakar's first Saturday in Seattle....
we started off decorating for Micah's birthday

Nancy picked up Jeremiah from the airport and then brought him to our house.
We all have not been together since our trip to India in 2018 so it was a sweet reunion!
