Elizabeth is having knee surgery on Thursday so our little running group pushed the eject button this morning and headed to the mountains for a hike to Snow Lake to soak up the best of the NW together before her surgery. So grateful to have these mountains in our backyard....

Fortunately, Unfortunately - Taylor Summer Edition
Fortunately, Taylor had a great last couple of weeks up in Canada on Thormanby Island helping his friend Lucian build fences, split wood, shuttle water in canoes, and hang out in a beautiful place on Lucian's grandfather's property. It seemed to me to be a combination of Huck Finn and Swiss Family Robinson. Unfortunately, the chainsaw broke at one point so they had to cut way more by hand than expected.
Fortunately, when they were leaving Thormanby Island, Taylor and Lucian planned a great three-day 26 mile hike to the Tantalus Traverse and were really excited about the challenge. Unfortunately, when they got to the trailhead, Lucian realized that Tommy and Alec had accidentally thrown his hiking boots away in a garbage bag when they were trying to help clean up.
Fortunately, Taylor and Lucian came to Seattle on Tuesday and made our house a home base for Plan B, and they found some new boots for Lucian on Facebook Marketplace on Wednesday. Then they headed up that night to Mt. Shuksan, slept a few hours at the trailhead, hiked to the bottom of the glacier by sunrise, and got to the summit around 10 am. Unfortunately, Taylor forgot his sunglasses and had to squint with the sunshine.
Fortunately, they got back home Thursday night and Jason and I had burgers and fries waiting for them, and they slept very well in cozy beds. Unfortunately, they were a bit tired and sore today from the summit.
Fortunately, they have caught the bug and are planning to hike Mt. Baker and Mt. Hood in the next week before they head back to Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, that means I don't have many more hugs left with Taylor in the kitchen.
Sure love getting to have this time and share in their adventures vicariously!
