Tonight was Taylor's first BMX race after his three days of camp. We were all excited to watch and cheer him on. Liam and Elizabeth came with us and it really was fun to all be there together.
Taylor's first race went really well until he got to the third straightaway and he had a crash.
Thankfully, he was okay (no visit to the ER!)
but it shook him up a bit and he had a scratch that I am sure hurts a lot.
(just a flesh wound, as we like to say..)
He was supposed to race three times and he decided that he did not want to race again after his crash.
His wonderful PE coach giving him some encouragement after his fall...
I will say that this sport is really inclusive and celebrates kids well. They give trophies to all the kids who are first time riders. :)
Liam is such a good friend...(and a great cheering squad!)
Taylor told me that he really likes riding his bike on the BMX track, but that he was not so sure he wanted to keep on racing. I must admit that the mama in me did not mind hearing this as it was so hard to watch him fall in his race. Not sure how I could keep that up if this were really something he wanted to pursue hard core..
Overall, I am so thankful for this first race and a lot that Taylor has learned this week about trying something new, persevering when things don't come easily, and brushing things off when crashes are a part of the story...
