For Labor Day weekend, we embarked on our first family
backpacking trip. Over the years,
we’ve done a lot of car camping and have had some great memories over time with
friends and family. But we took it
to a new level this weekend with our little adventure scouts and hiked into
Goat Lake (a 5 mile hike to the lake recommended to us from another family who had been on this hike for their first backpacking trip). We were not sure how it would go as sometimes long hikes have
been like pulling teeth. However, this trip was FABULOUS! When we were in the
car on the way home, Jason and I commented how surprisingly easy the whole trip
was and how seamless our time was on this hike. It was such fun to enter this
new world of being able to go to places with Anna and Taylor that have been out
of reach for some years for our foursome because of the distance and the weight
of backpacks. When some friends
asked them tonight what they thought of the trip, they both gave an enthusiastic thumbs up.
Anna did say that she was not ready to go again tomorrow (we might all be a bit
sore!), but I am so happy to report that she is still a happy camper.
all the essentials packed
At one point on the trail, Hobbes did fall out of his pack (as he had kept his head peeking out),
but Jason saved the day and ran back and found him just up the trail a bit...
