Adam Grant wrote an op-ed for the New York Times about how "we find our greatest joy in moments of collective effervescence" -- a term coined by Emile Durkheim more than 100 years ago after investigating what he originally described as a type of magic that he witnessed during religious ceremonies. "It's an experience of connection, communal emotion, and a 'sensation of sacredness' that happens when we are a part of something bigger than us."
"Collective effervescence is the feeling of energy and harmony when people are engaged in a shared purpose. It is a joie de vivre that manifests when we share moments with others"
such as being at a Coldplay concert with 58,000 people.
We went to a Coldplay show with the kids in 2017 and coming again 6 years later was another fabulous experience of delight and play and pure fun. (Taylor was invited to come with us last night, but he is not a huge fan and did not want to do this on his last night before heading to UCSC. He got to go to dinner with Nana and Papa and was able to say goodbye to some friends while we were at the show.)
Coldplay Confetti:
(one of many times confetti was shot into the air
in the shapes of stars and butterflies and colored squares)
Coldplay Fun and Games:
He encouraged folks during "Sky Full of Stars" to put their phones away and just be in the moment. So much fun--- Jason and I danced a ton together, tossed confetti and balls in the air, and had such a blast!
light up bracelets were amazing through the show too!
Check out this heart that they created with one side of the audience...
