children of grace

It's easy to enjoy summer and our kids when we have days like yesterday when we were invited to a friend's cabin for the day to swim, bike, and play in their yard.  There are moments in parenting where it's literally fun and games- throwing a ball in the pool, testing chocolate fudge recipes together in the kitchen, and listening to fun music in the car on road trips.  But then there are moments that my friend Heather reminded me that we have been given "children of grace." She did not mean that we were given children who have graceful qualities per say. She meant that God gives us children that require added measures of grace at times for us to be the parents they need. We are stretched and challenged to extend patience, time, coaching, love and grace beyond measure. I am so thankful that while we are not always able to give these things because we feel spent (and because we ourselves know how desperately we need grace extended to us), we depend on a God who can.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.
Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:!6
