A number of years ago when I was pregnant with Anna, my dear friend Mary Price Maddox came to visit Seattle that summer, and we took her on lots of adventures over the river and through the woods here in the NW. From what I can remember from 15 years ago, we did some hiking, kayaking, walking, and playing ultimate frisbee among many other fun things here in the summer. She joked that she felt like she had come to "Camp Huff" as we kept her on her toes and whipped her into shape with all the activities. I recall her reporting to me that she was in need of a good nap after the week and that she slept the whole flight back to her home in Boston.
When Dani and Kelsey came to visit a few weeks ago for their spring break, I tried to plan lots of things to show them the best of the NW here too. We sure packed in a lot despite the rain with walks in the neighborhood and through UW campus, a visit to Pike Place Market along with time to meet the Fremont Troll, a trek to see the daffodils, a hike on Whidbey to see the Puget Sound, opening night of Beauty and the Beast at a small local theater, birthday balloons and cheer for Dani, an epic bike ride with some rain to keep it memorable at the end, and fun times with our bunny Poppy just hanging out reading on the couch. I shared with Kelsey about the reference to "Camp Huff" from my friend Mary Price at one point during their trip, and she surprised us with these hilarious t-shirts in the mail today.
This was taken from the YSSC website (where Jason and I worked together in college) and we believe it is also true for Camp Huff. It is "affectionately known as 'The Home of the World’s Greatest Campers!' We love our campers and consider it a privilege to care for each one. We play hard and laugh hard together. Campers make friends and connect with new role models. They take on new challenges and master skills that bolster their confidence. Kids are awed by the beauty of nature and discover creativity within themselves. At camp, they problem solve, develop resiliency, care for others and open up in new ways. They learn about God’s love through experiences that come about as we live in community."
Camp Huff is happy to host campers for future sessions. Please notify the camp directors for the time you'd like to come and let us know any dietary restrictions so we can best accommodate your stay.
