anchored

Anna and I got back from our retreat this afternoon
and certainly can report that we both had a wonderful time away together with a pretty remarkable group of women.
at Bethany House Retreat Center in Dickson, TN

Rose and Catherine (the two puppies that appeared at the retreat center this month out of nowhere) Now the 5 nuns there have taken them in. They are certainly wonderful parts of the welcoming committee!

Anna's post-it note for the retreat when we named our hopes and expectations

such a BEAUTIFUL place!!!

a time of remembrance for our dear friend Susanne who passed away this summer and who started the vision for this contemplative prayer group of women

Stephanie, Emily, Harriet and Leoma (all amazing women I knew from my days in Knoxville)

What I love about this is that this was something that stood out to Anna on the retreat, and with the days ahead of us of needing to help her to navigate the waters of harnessing the emotions of high school (see this explanation for a fabulous summary of that), this is going to be such a great reference point. (Because let's be honest--- we all need an anchor so that the disappointments and failures that come our way can lead us to depend on God more truly rather than causing us to crumble.)
