Today's March of Silence in Seattle that 60,000+ people participated in was an inspiration to be a part of. In contrast to the spirited loud chants at the march on Sunday in Rainier Valley, we walked about 2.5 miles silently in the rain from Judkins Park to Jefferson Park. The silence pushed me to look around me at the signs, to pay attention, to think, to acknowledge, to lament, to remember, and to confess. It reminded me of the quote from Abraham Joshua Heschel who said in 1965, "When I march in Selma, my feet are praying." There is so much work to be done, but I'm encouraged that more eyes are being opened, more conversations are happening, and more of us are committing to the unlearning and learning that is ahead of us.

Such fun that we ran into our friend Fredrik half way through the march
and walked the rest of the way together--
(He and our friend Byron often walk barefoot so when I saw those feet marching near us, we were so excited and knew it was meant to be to get to spend part of that time together.)
