Anna decided over the summer that she wanted to train for a half marathon. Of course there were no races to sign up for so we charted a course and she made up her own race to train for. We set the date but had to push it back several times because of shin splints she was dealing with and because of poor air quality from smoke from fires in surrounding areas. Jason and I both are so grateful for the time we shared with her during her training when we logged a bunch of miles with her, and we are so grateful for so many people who cheered her on today in her race. Our neighbors Jaime and Brooke chalked our front porch and sidewalk and even drew a start line on our street. They invited a few more neighbors to come and make some noise to clap and cheer as she started the run this morning. I got to run the whole thing with her, and Jason, Elizabeth and Elise joined us for a few miles along the way. The other thing that was such fun was that I recruited 13 friends and family to send us short videos with messages and cheers for Anna that I played for her at each mile as a surprise, and she loved them. Another fun surprise was that Anna's dear friend Sarah went all along the course and left her signs to keep her going. We also got to see Nana and Papa on their bikes towards the end, and the whole Langford family was at the 12 mile marker with balloons and posters to cheer us on to the finish. Taylor and Jason made their way to the finish as well to congratulate Anna on meeting her goal. It could not have been a better morning, and we are so proud of our runner girl!
These made the miles go by SO fast and we loved every single one!
