Trader Joe's Bike Benefits

Bicycle Benefits is a national program that supports cycling and local businesses by providing discounts and deals you can only get if you bike there and show your Bicycle Benefits helmet sticker.

While Trader Joe's is not an official Bicycle Benefits business, there is a guy who works there named Bob who bikes to work who has his own personal version of the Bike Benefits program. He keeps a personal stash of the wonderful dark chocolate peanut butter cups in his pocket and he gives them to bike commuters who come into the store. No helmet sticker needed-- he can tell who the bikers are as they are holding their helmets or are carrying their bike bags to do their grocery shopping.

There have been a number of days when Bob and his surprise gift of the peanut butter cups have made it into my daily gratitude journal because it's just such a sweet treat from a fellow cyclist in town.

I snapped this picture with Bob last week to send to Anna as she was on her way home from South America as she has heard many of my Trader Joe's stories about Bob and the beloved peanut butter cups.

So cheers to Bob and to Bike Benefits today (and mostly to the small acts of kindness in this world that really do make a difference)!
