Walking Blessing
That each step
may be a shedding.
That you will let yourself
become lost.
That when it looks like
you're going backwards,
you may be making progress.
That progress is not the goal anyway,
but presence
to the feel of the path on your skin,
the way it reshapes you
in each place it makes contact,
to the way you cannot see it
until the moment you have stepped out.

Day 1 of Walking - June 13, 2026
Portuguese Camino
Valença to Porriño - 14.02 miles
(I borrowed this idea from my friend and mentor Doug Bunnell, who walked the Camino with his wife, Laurie, during a sabbatical several years ago. It proved to be a gift—a gentle invitation to begin each day with reflection, prayer, and attentiveness, rather than feeling the pressure to dive right into conversation with the other 28 pilgrims on our team.)
crossing the River Minho
arriving in Spain (Jaime, Brooke, Emily and Regi)
Tui Cathedral
meeting Arian (banana man) from Germany who was along the trail
sharing bananas for donations or for free (He came on the Camino after his father passed away and he left his restaurant job for a fresh start).
some of the many beautiful hydrangeas along the way
Mike and Hannah
