The Coulée Verte

We took the train into Paris on Sunday and found ourselves near the Bercy Arena where the basketball, trampoline and gymnastics events are all being held for the Olympics so it was fun to be amidst the Olympic spirit again before we left.

We walked around to find a Franprix (the small grocery store chain) to pick up some stuff for a picnic for dinner and then just happened to find a wonderful spot on the Coulée Verte for a great last hurrah for our time in Paris. We are so thankful for this time that we have had together!!

Here's what I found online about the Coulée Verte where we had our final picnic in Paris:

A magical, green walk along Paris's Promenade Plantée (La Coulee Verte)

At times 10 meters above street level, this free, scenic three-mile stroll from the Bastille to the Bois de Vincennes was the world’s first elevated park walkway – and has become a cherished part of the city

Here's the section of the park that we happened upon for our picnic as we sat right across from the building with the Michelangelo reproductions:

Section 4: Jardin de Reuilly  – Rue de Lyon /Av. Daumesnil

Walking Distance: 1,4 Km

Metro Station: Montgallet, Line 6; Vélib Station #12027

This is the last part of this beautiful nature walk in Paris. At one point, the walkway runs through a modern building, which is very cool! Walkers are still above the street level, and it is interesting to see the surrounding architecture from another point of view.

For example, there is a relatively modern building with reproductions of Michelangelo’s Rebellious Slave, today part of the Louvre collections. These slaves are 2 floors high!
