May Twenty-Twenty-One

I dug up this version of Psalm 42 that I wrote back in the spring of 2004 around the themes of Narnia, and I thought it was worth sharing as parts of the world are reemerging while some places are still struggling greatly.

God is our refuge- our Narnia.
He will never leave you and is ever present even when you don't feel him or sense his work.
Because of this, we can ride on Aslan's back, holding his mane tightly- but also with reckless abandon and confidence feeling the wind through our hair.
Though everything looks like winter is here to stay, spring is right around the corner. The buds will reappear. The birds will sing again- new life will come. God is here. God is in our midst. It may not feel like it- it may not feel safe, but God truly is good. Oh, God is good. Step out of the chaos and step into the wardrobe. Walk past the coats and into Narnia. There you will take a deep breath of His presence. God is with us.

“There's no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.”
Jill Churchill, American mystery writer

“If there is anywhere on earth a lover of God who is always kept safe, I know nothing of it, for it was not shown to me. But this was shown: that in falling and rising again we are always kept in that same precious love.” -  Julian of Norwich, 14th century

“God loved us before he made us; and his love has never diminished and never shall.”
- Julian of Norwich, 14th century

“Aslan, you’re bigger,” said Lucy.
“That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
-C.S. Lewis Prince Caspian

“So everyday, I was surrounded by the beautiful crying forth of the ideas of God,
one of which was you.” – Mary Oliver

Away for the Day

Taylor and Jason headed out to Tiger Mountain and to Duthie today to play in the woods on their bikes while Anna and I went in search of some waterfalls on the Boulder River Trail.  So good to be away for the day to recharge.

Happiness is Cooking Together

Micah has had his first vaccination, and we decided to bake together in the same kitchen (rather than on FaceTime) for the first time in a long, long time for our monthly baking date. WHAT A GIFT to get to be together in one place!

Picture Perfect

Jason brought Poppy out to the front yard early this evening while the sun was showing off, and she certainly had a regal look to her.  See below for some picture perfect poses she gave us.

Almost Summer Sunset

As part of Taylor's birthday gift, I sent Taylor, Halle, and Josiah to get dinner at Chick-fil-A last Saturday night, and then they headed over to Carkeek Park to check out the sunset. Halle was VERY gracious to share these pictures with me. :)

Right at Home

We sure love how Poppy has made herself right at home here for almost 8 years with us....

Working Boy

I stopped by to take lunch to Taylor on Saturday for a pre-birthday treat, and in return, I got to snap a photo of him in his official work shirt at Counterbalance Bicycles where Taylor has been working for the last month or so.  Overall, it's been a great fit for him to use some of his skills and to learn some more tricks of the trade in fixing bikes.

Senior Prom

Anna and some of her friends had such fun at their made-up senior prom last night. A few of them got ready together at our house and then headed downtown to catch the ferry to Bainbridge for a fun evening together.  (I got to tag along downtown to be their photographer for a few of the photos before they caught the ferry and headed off on their adventure- such fun!)
