February Twenty-Twenty-Four

amidst some awesome (in every sense of the word
adventures and vistas with our family,
this prayer seems to capture a bit of what we've experienced...

"Listen to my blinking eyes,
for at certain moments
when sunlight strikes just right,
or stars pierce the darkness just enough,
or clouds roll around just so,
or snow kisses the world into quietness,
everything is suddenly transparent…
and something in me is pure enough
for an instant
to see your kingdom in a glance,
and so to praise you in a gasp —
quick,
then gone,
but it is enough."
 -Ted Loder, Guerillas of Grace

Happy 27th!

Jason left me a delightful note yesterday morning to celebrate the 27th (as our anniversary is on July 27th, we say "happy 27th" to each other each month when that number rolls around on the calendar). While we try to write each other a note on this day each month, it's also turned into a race to see who can say "Happy 27th" first. Clearly, Jason beat me to the punch with this note and took the prize yesterday.

Someone else really liked this note.....

and snacked on it all through the day....

and into the night.....

After Class Treat

Anna went with some of her classmates on this hike yesterday after class... What in the world?! This gorgeous spot is only 10 minutes from town..... (Let's just say that this is not what I did after class yesterday!) So amazing!

Ushuaia Sneak Peek

Anna may be posting some of these on her own in the next week or so, but we got such a great report from Anna on Friday night and I had to post these pictures of adorable penguins and sea lions that she got to see the other day in Ushuaia!

She met her host family on Friday and moved in with them (Andrea is the mom with her 15 year old daughter Pax), and they sound wonderful!

Anna's host mom (Andrea) is pictured in black on the right side of the picture. Andrea's 15 year old daughter is next to her.  Maisy (another student in Anna's program) is in the red shirt and is next to Andrea's sister and her two daughters. Their family also is hosting students. They only speak Spanish in the house, so Anna's learning curve is HUGE right now!

Awards Night- Winter 2024 Edition

On the night before we all left to take Anna to Patagonia, we had a quick awards night with Sikose, and it was such fun to bring her into this part of our family culture with our shenanigans.

a few of the awards pictured below...

Magnet award- for Sikose for her magnetic personality
January Sun Chaser award- for Sikose to commemorate her trip to Mexico for a week during the beginning of winter quarter
Emergency Uber Passport Delivery award- for Jason for saving the day and bringing our passports to the airport when we were going to Canada to visit Allison and Porter
The Personal Trainer award- for Anna who ran many miles with me and who upped the ante and stayed in the water with Jason for longer for polar bear plunges
The Rabbit Who Listened award- for Anna who was such a wonderful listener and companion while she was home with us for this extended time.
The Mad Scientist award- for me for the hilarious mishap I had in my science methods class this quarter with an experiment in which I brought a wrong ingredient for the students
The 2024 Tony award- for me as the postman at our local post office told me that he wrote a play and wrote me as a character in his play (!) More on this story later this week....
