February Twenty-Twenty-Two

"O God of peace, our hearts are heavy and our brains can barely keep up with the breaking news. We don’t know what to say or what to do in a world so wounded. So we come to you with hearts heavy for all who sit in the crossfires of violence and acts of war..." -Kayla Craig

and so this month... I offer you this prayer from
the Book of Common Prayer to guide us as we pray:

and here are a few moments captured as a way to give thanks for the gifts and graces of this past month in the midst of this messy and broken world...

Spork!

Anna's given nickname in ultimate frisbee is "Spork" (because 1) it's a hilarious name and it's fun; 2) they said she is versatile; and 3) they said she is great for camping- apparently she brought cookies for everyone to practice one time which would also be good for camping!)

Friday night was an event to dress up inspired by everyone's nicknames, and Anna went to the Hive (an art studio/ maker's space available to students) to create a giant spork out of cardboard.  The t-shirt I ordered for her as a surprise after she told me her team name arrived in time for the event too. :)

Please also notice the attention to detail with her hairdo! SO MUCH FUN! (Being a bit of a nut myself and loving being silly like this, this makes my heart so happy and proud!)

Quick Trip

I am so grateful that Taylor got to have a quick trip to be with Molly, Rafa, Janie, & Abba for a few days for his mid-winter break (we pick him up from his flight back tonight). Always good to get a change of scenery and to get to have the grandparents all to yourself... :)

Staycation

We were supposed to be in Montgomery, AL this weekend with 18 other neighbors for a group trip to see the Legacy Museum and the Peace and Justice Memorial, but plans got thwarted with flights being cancelled due to bad weather. So, instead, we have had a lovely last couple of days here with some unexpected pockets of time here at home.

dinner party on Wednesday night for Kari Cuneo who has been in town this week

Jenn, Tamara, Kari and I were all in a small group together many years ago, and those bonds go deep....It's such a treat to get together!

We rallied some of our neighbors who were also supposed to go on the trip for a potluck last night, and had such a wonderful time!

sunny day run with Kari

dinner out with a gift certificate from Gingie from Christmas. Thank you, Ging!
What a treat. :)

San Diego Day

Yesterday, Taylor and I had such a fun day exploring San Diego and checking out USD and UCSD. So thankful for another college visit as Taylor creates his college list for applications in the fall.

University of San Diego (USD)

lunch with Lindsay and Hope at USD (two of Anna's friends from Roosevelt who go there)

University of California- San Diego (UCSD)

we loved checking out the UCSD campus with Ian Fosth who is a sophomore there (and who is the best tour guide and who did not mind walking in the rain with us all around campus!)

sea lions at La Jolla Cove

of course, we stopped at some thrift stores in San Diego---
don't worry, I used self-control and did not buy these hilarious shoes

dinner at Liberty Market in San Diego (like Pike Place in Seattle)
