July Twenty-Sixteen

July Twenty- Sixteen

to Kenya and back again....

I Saw What I Saw by Sara Groves
I saw what I saw and I can't forget it
I heard what I heard and I can't go back
I know what I know and I can't deny it
Something on the road, cut me to the soul

Your pain has changed me
your dream inspires
your face a memory
your hope a fire

your courage asks me what I'm afraid of
(what I am made of)
and what I know of love

we've done what we've done and we can't erase it
we are what we are and it's more than enough
we have what we have but it's no substitution
Something on the road, touched my very soul

I say what I say with no hesitation
I have what I have and I'm giving it up
I do what I do with deep conviction
Something on the road, changed my world

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

I was not able to upload this video in Kenya because of internet connectivity, but here is one of my favorite memories of Anna playing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" at Bishop Kaaleng's church in Lodwar, Kenya... As she is playing, the congregation began to hum and sing along in Kiswahili, and it was certainly a little piece of heaven.

Come, Thou fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace,
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
While the hope of endless glory
Fills my heart with joy and love,
Teach me ever to adore Thee,
May I still Thy goodness prove.

Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by Thy help I've come,
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God,
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be,
Let that grace now like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

Oh, that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face,
Clothed then in the blood washed linen
How I'll sing Thy wondrous grace!
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away,
Send Thine angels soon to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

middle school milestone

We made the trek to Best Buy this week to pick out a phone for Taylor with middle school just around the corner.  (And it's just so helpful for him to have a phone if for some reason he is home alone for a bit which happens on occasion.)

(Let's just say that Taylor was VERY motivated to get all of his homework done this week when this trip to Best Buy was on the horizon)

score!

A score is 20 years. (I only know this because of Abraham Lincoln's speech...)

so thankful to get to celebrate last night with Jason
and mark this milestone together with a night out... Score!!

I saw this quote about a 20th anniversary and had to laugh:
"If our marriage were a person, it still wouldn’t be old enough to drink.
Maybe we can toast to our marriage next year."

Happy 20th!

Happy 20th Anniversary!

(pictures below taken by Anna when we stopped at the sidewalk on Stanford campus last weekend where we had our first kiss 23 years ago.. I have not laughed this hard in a long time...)
“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”
– Mignon McLaughlin

“To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow–this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.”
– Elizabeth Gilbert

“If we commit ourselves to one person for life, this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather, it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession but participation.” -Madeleine L'Engle

Happy Anniversary- counting to 20!
