Harry Potter Day 2016 at SPU

Today at SPU was the 2016 New Student Convocation. It's a very meaningful tradition to welcome the students into the community with a message from SPU's resident and provost.

At the end, the entire faculty creates a large circle surrounding the freshmen who come to the center of the gym, and then we give them each a small SPU pin. The ceremony ends with a benediction to faculty and students sending us into the new school year. While I love the pomp and circumstance, I also had to bring a little humor before the convocation started as some of us have dubbed it "Harry Potter Day" since all the faculty are supposed to dress in all their academic regalia. So- I brought a few sticks that had been made into wands by Anna and Taylor through the years from our costume box and brought a few pairs of glasses that Mike and I donned for these pictures while we were waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Go Gryffindor - I mean- Falcons!
