Delight in the person in front of you

I listened to this wonderful podcast last week on a show called “10% Happier” as Dan Harris interviewed Father Greg Boyle.  One of Father Boyle’s mantras is to 1) anchor yourself in the present moment and 2) delight in the person in front of you.

On Sunday, as the boys were hiking the Enchantments, Jaime and I knocked on Rachel Clifton’s door to give her a hug. Rachel moved to Leavenworth a few years ago and is Julie Canlis’ mom, and Jaime & I both have connections to Julie from many moons ago. Anyway, Rachel was so gracious and invited us in for a bit to catch up and sent us down innertubes down the river by their house with snacks and drinks. She was such a wonderful example of delighting in the person in front of you (even unexpected guests who show up at your doorstep!), and she blessed us more than she could ever know with her warmth and kindness. So very grateful for people who embody such presence and delight.
