Advent

Advent is here. The first day of the church calendar- a new year’s day of sorts.  Advent is a season of hushed voices. ‘Tis the season of expectation. It is a time when we are invited to come and adore Him. Let’s not miss out on what God might be saying and let’s pay attention! (which easier said than done in this season in our culture that tends to be busier and more cluttered than any other time of the year.)

Pope John Paul II said this: “Advent…helps us to understand the fullness of the value and meaning of the mystery of Christmas. It is not just about commemorating the historical event; which occurred some 2000 years ago in a little village in Judea.  Instead, we must understand that our whole life should be an ‘advent’, in vigilant expectation of Christ’s final coming. To prepare our hearts to welcome the Lord who, as we say in the Creed, will come one day to judge the living and the dead, we must learn to recognize his presence in the events of daily life.  Advent is then a period of intense training that directs us decisively to the One who has already come, who will come and who continuously comes.”

Go slow. Be God-struck. Grant grace. Live Truth. Give Thanks. Become the gift. –Ann Voskamp

a season of lights! (we lit all the candles rather than just the first one for this Sunday so that the kids would all have a chance to light a candle...)
