Lake Melakwa

We had a fabulous camping trip this weekend to Lake Melakwa- a beautiful alpine lake about 3.5 miles past the popular Denny Creek hike.  Anna and Taylor were troopers. It was fun to hear Taylor singing at one point on the trail when he was jetting ahead of us, and Anna was a champ plodding along when she had a sore throat even offering to carry some of Taylor's stuff when he was getting tired.  When we arrived at the lake, we all had ideas that we were going to take a quick dip, but the clouds were rolling in at that point and the wind and rain soon followed quite dramatically. We were so thankful to get our tent up before it started raining so we could hunker down there for the evening.  We'll just have to go back another time for that swim we did not get in!  The evening in the tent was pretty sweet with the sound of the rain through the night, and then it was such a gift to wake up to patches of sun and blue sky this morning. We sure are grateful to be in this season where we can backpack and camp together as a family! We can't wait for more adventures on the trails...

(that sure seems like longer than 4.5 miles to us all!)

my phone ran out of juice so I downloaded this picture of the lake to show you what we got to see this morning with the sun and blue sky before we hiked back. Beautiful!!
