phoenix

With no school today because of teacher meetings, we went to work to work on Anna's Halloween costume this morning.  She had her heart set on being a phoenix and we had such fun finding old costumes and cutting up some fun fabric (one sparkly shirt we had and an old running shirt)...

Here's the idea we found on Pinterest that inspired us:

she cut out feathers out of felt and we used duck tape to secure those.
(Many thanks to Janie for the red dress she passed down to us years ago
and to Abby for the gold belt she gifted to Anna that we found in our costume box!)

Wikipedia tells us that "In Greek mythology, a phoenix or phenix (Greek: φοῖνιξ phoinix) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. The phoenix was subsequently adopted as a symbol in early Christianity."

our attempt to put a cape on Poppy that we found in the costume box...

I think she was a bit traumatized by the experience but she sure was cute as a superhero bunny ...

running away as fast as she could!!
