Through the years, we have had a tradition of blowing up balloons and hanging them above the birthday girl's bed so that she wakes up to them on the morning of her birthday. I had so much fun carrying on the tradition in the wee hours of the night for a birthday surprise this morning!
When she was little, she had ideas of how these balloons magically appeared. Her ideas ranged from the giraffes in Lion King to Star Wars characters to favorite characters from Narnia and Harry Potter. This year, it was only appropriate to tell her that someone must have come in on a tall unicycle and put them around her bed while she was sleeping.
