Amy brought a sheet of information from Compassion International with some information about India and these in particular ring so true now that have lived and breathed this place for the last week:
•
“A trip to India is an assault to the senses.
You’ll travel through dusty heat, sharing roads with a parade of bicycles,
auto-rickshaws, sputtering motorcycles, tinsel-draped trucks, camel carts and
the occasional cow.”
•
“Expect
to see a deluge of bicycles, motorcycles and cars. When crossing the streets,
be exceptionally careful and alert.”
•
“Indians
are very hospitable. Guests are usually served or offered second or third
servings of food as a gesture of hospitality. Sometimes even after saying no,
they will put food on your plate to show their real love and care.”
This
place is certainly a country of contrasts.... Women wearing some of the
most beautiful saris with beautiful embroidery and beading walking on dirt
streets. Satellite dishes on mud huts in rural India 147 km from a
main town..... I cannot believe that it has only been a week and yet we have
seen so much in such a short time.
