Date Night

I was going through some favorite quotes today and I ran across this one. It was a great one to read in light of our date night tonight...

"Our friends recently bought a stone polisher for their kids.  They opened the thing up, all excited about having some nifty polished stones by suppertime, only to discover that the process involved several steps and took weeks.  Weeks!  So they had to plug the thing in somewhere in a quiet corner of the house and just let it churn, round the clock.  No one ever told me this before my wedding day, but I’m beginning to understand, after eleven years, that marriage sometimes feels like climbing with another person into a stone tumbler.  You keep spinning over and over, half the time up in the air and half the time clattering into each other on the way down.  Sometimes, you want some relief from the tumbler; you start thinking you could be perfectly happy with how beautiful a stone you are without it.  But if you’re both willing to stay in there a long time and accept the same amount of tumbling, you get smoothed out and polished enough to reflect a light beyond yourselves.  If you can laugh about all the ups and downs, it can even be fun.  Oh and here’s a sobering thought: the little pebbles who wind up in the polisher with us are subject to the same tumbling.  Oh, little baby, your parents have so many faults.  But we’re in this together.  Wheeeeeee!"

Date Night tonight
(Hooray for the Atkins and Hutchinsons
and our rotating babysitting swaps and date nights)

at Ray's Boathouse in Seattle

cracking up when I was trying to take a picture tonight
with my Iphone with the front facing camera feature...

one more try.... (still not quite the look I was aiming for...)

Someone came over to us and laughed with us about how my efforts were not going so well.
She offered to take this picture for us. Much better. :)
