You are a ruby embedded in granite

I read this quote by the poet, Rumi: "You are a ruby embedded in granite. How long can we pretend it's not true?"
With my work in creating ruby red slippers (running shoes) for next week's marathon, it is no wonder that this ruby quote stood out in my mind.
What would happen if I accepted this metaphor? What would happen if I really believed I am a jewel waiting to bubble and sparkle? What would happen if I really believe that I am beloved today?
I know that the ruby red sparkles on my shoes are just for fun next week, but I do hope that as I look down at my feet that I will remember some of these deeper truths and that it will cause me to bubble out and sing and give thanks.
