The Blessing of the Backpacks

Our church back in Knoxville had a wonderful tradition to start off the school year with the "Blessing of the Backpacks".  As the kids came up to the front of the church with their backpacks, some of them were asked to pull out an item in their backpack and think of how that item could be used to bring glory to God through the year. They were each given a card with a blessing, and the congregation prayed for them.
We decided to keep this tradition going in our neighborhood here in Seattle. Last year, we did this with just one other family, but this year, we gathered a bunch more for the backpack blessings before the first day of school tomorrow.  (not to mention some ice cream before dinner which is always a treat!)

Just to recreate this scene a bit more for you, Taylor was making his Darth Vader keychain on his backpack make a noise while we were reading this blessing.

We signaled to Taylor to keep it off, but he still had made his mark.
Gotta love a little Star Wars love in the blessings of the backpacks today on 16th...

ice cream cones for after the blessings!
